Chef Arnaud Dunand Sautier’s highly anticipated new venture is finally opening this Friday, September 9. The legendary chef, fresh from his appearance at the "Thailand’s Favourite Restaurants 2022" event last week, has been hard at work creating his new location after leaving Le Normandie at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. Under his care, Le Normandie earned two Michelin stars.
Chef Arnaud’s new venture in Sathorn Soi 10 is a wonderfully decorated two-storey wood-framed house which takes its aesthetic inspiration from the Alpine chalets in France, a place the chef is familiar with since that was where he spent his childhood. The house will actually house two restaurants: Maison Dunand and Alpea, with Maison Dunand opening first on September 9 and Alpea following in a few months.
Maison Dunand is dedicated to classic French cuisine but also reflects the chef’s influences from his travels. “Maison” of course means “home” in French, so the chef is basically welcoming diners into his home. The restaurant makes use of produce from the Alpine region of Savoie and the coastline of Brittany, making use of sumptuous Brittany seafood.
Alpea will feature “the recipes and flavors of chef Arnaud’s childhood in Savoie”. The menu is going to be filled with nostalgic dishes the chef enjoyed while staying in Savoie and cuisine that traces its roots to the Piedmont and Savoie kingdom. An artisanal grocery aptly named “The Alpea Grocery” will also be featured in a quaint corner and will sell cheeses, pastries, and other baked treats.
Maison Dunand opens its doors on September 9, The Alpea Grocery in mid-September, and Alpea in mid-November.
