Pichatorn “Nam” Nualdaisri treats Thai textile tradition as a starting point rather than a boundary. Through Bangkok-based studio The Yarn Story, she explores how handwoven materials can move into contemporary interiors, furniture, hospitality and large-scale art while retaining a clear connection to the craft behind them.

Nam combines design practice with academic inquiry. She holds a master’s degree in Textile Design from Chelsea College of Arts, while her doctoral research centres on creative textiles made from local Thai silk. That research-led perspective informs collaborations with weavers and craftspeople across Thailand, developing materials that bring together silk, natural fibres, recycled materials and new weaving techniques.

The studio’s reach extends beyond Nam’s own collections. The Yarn Story develops textiles and prototypes and provides consultation for entrepreneurs, designers and businesses looking to work more imaginatively with local materials. Its work has appeared at InterContinental Bangkok and Dusit Central Park, placing Thai craftsmanship within contemporary hospitality and interior settings.

Just as important is what remains behind the finished piece. Through workshops, educational programmes and collaborations with schools and universities, Nam helps pass traditional techniques and their value to new generations. Her work makes a persuasive case for preservation through evolution: keeping local textile knowledge relevant by giving it new materials, applications and audiences
