Professor Manop Pithukpakorn works where genetic research meets the realities of patient care. A medical geneticist, physician and researcher at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, he specialises in genomic medicine, rare-disease diagnosis and precision medicine, translating advances in genetics into practical healthcare.

After earning his medical degree at Siriraj Hospital, Manop completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago. He then specialised further through a fellowship in Clinical Genetics and Molecular Genetics at the National Human Genome Research Institute and the National Institutes of Health in the United States.

His research encompasses hereditary disorders, genetic conditions in Thai populations, cancer precision medicine and rare diseases. At Siriraj, he contributes to clinical genomic services through Siriraj Genomics, described as Thailand’s largest comprehensive clinical genomic programme and responsible for thousands of genetic tests each year. He also leads research initiatives under Genomics Thailand, the national programme advancing genomic medicine.

The significance lies in connecting laboratory knowledge with individual patients: improving diagnosis, informing more personalised approaches to treatment and widening access to genomic healthcare. Through clinical practice, research and national collaboration, Manop is helping build Thailand’s capacity in medical genetics while bringing the promise of precision medicine closer to routine care.
