A New Chapter of  Comfortable City Stays Unfolds as voco Bangkok Surawong Makes Its Debut in Bangkok

IHG’s voco Bangkok Surawong opens in Bangkok, offering a comfortable city stay shaped by local design, easygoing luxury and a more personal way to experience the city.

Bangkok’s hotel scene has a new addition with the arrival of voco Bangkok Surawong, bringing IHG’s fastest-growing premium brand to Thailand for the first time. Created to feel more like a place you can settle into than a traditional hotel, voco offers an upscale stay that’s relaxed and full of personality.

It’s designed for travellers who want to slow down and get comfortable; the experience feels like opening a door to a calmer rhythm of the city, offering a quieter way to connect with Bangkok.

said Walid Ouezini, General Manager, voco Bangkok Surawong.

Where Past and Present Meet: An Architectural Story

Every voco hotel takes its cues from its surroundings, and at voco Bangkok Surawong, the property combines brand identity with Thai influences. The building itself tells its own story. Once the Tawana Hotel, it has been reworked by Thai architecture firm A49 by retaining the strength of its Brutalist modernist origins while opening the space to light and movement. Geometric forms from the original architecture remain, now softened by contemporary touches that create a seamless dialogue between past and present. This is to connect with the energy of the Surawong neighbourhood that is full of heritage, commerce and culture.

Thoughtful Design Sets the Tone for a Relaxed Stay

For the interiors, the hotel collaborated with P49 Deesign, a Thai interior design studio, drawing on mid-century influences layered with Thai craftsmanship, retro accents and modern comforts.

The hotel’s 244 rooms and suites carry through the same sense of ease. Sustainability is woven in: pillows and duvets are filled with recycled materials while bathrooms are stocked with organic Antipodes amenities from New Zealand. Each detail reflects voco’s belief that thoughtful choices can shape a better way to travel.

From the moment guests arrive, the experience is designed to feel personal and unhurried. A touch of local flavour comes in the form of a mango sticky rice cookie, a reinterpretation of the much-loved Thai dessert, baked daily by the hotel’s pastry chef using fresh local mangoes.

Up on the fourth floor, the setting feels calmer with a 25 metre swimming pool set beside a landscape garden, drawing attention and creating the feeling of swimming amid nature, alongside a fitness centre.

Dining That Draws People Together

Dining plays a central role in showcasing the “voco life”, with three restaurants and bars offering varied experiences throughout the day. Two venues stand out:

TASCA SABIO  brings the lively spirit of Spain to Bangkok. The restaurant serves authentic tapas and house-crafted sangrias in a convivial setting. Designed for sharing plates, clinking glasses and easy conversation, the venue turns dinner into a social affair that stretches late into the evening.

For a more relaxed pace, DECKLES Smokehouse offers an all-day dining experience rooted in slow-cooking traditions. Here, smoked meats are paired with spices and well-crafted cocktails.

At voco Bangkok Surawong, design and experience work in harmony to create an easy sense of comfort, giving travellers space to slow down and unwind.
